EVERY DAY... A DAY OF PRAYER

Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

I recently read a story of a little girl that loved to have her parents read her the story of the three little pigs.  Every night before she went to sleep her mom or dad  would read her this story.  One day her dad had the idea to record the story on tape so their little girl could just push "play" and hear their voices and the story.  The little girl resisted.

Her father explained that this way she could always hear the story and their voices.

His little daughter responded, "yes, but I can't set in it's lap".

What a wonderful illustration of what opportunities we have with the very God that created all the universe.  What He wants most from us is a relationship.  He created man to have that relationship with Him.  Yet, so many of those He has created no longer come to him in prayer.

We have complete access to the very creator of all things and we have ignored Him.  Oh we might come to Him in a time of crisis and disaster, but as a whole the average person never has a time of prayer that our Lord is looking for with us.

This week, on Thursday, our nation will celebrate the National Day Of Prayer.  It is a time set aside for the people of our country to come together to pray.

In February of 1952 during the Korean War, the desire to have a united national prayer was spoken by Reverend Billy Graham, who said, "What a thrilling, glorious thing it would be to see the leaders of our country today kneeling before Almighty God in prayer. What a thrill would sweep this country. What renewed hope and courage would grip the Americans at this hour of peril."

Wouldn't it be great if we saw this statement lived out, "What renewed hope and courage would grip the Americans"?  If because of our renewed trust in God as the entire United States of America, we again put our trust in our Heavenly Father, wouldn't that be amazing?  It's said that nearly 80% of those that don't even believe in God turn to prayer in a time of personal tragedy.  Why not turn to Him in all things in life?

I challenge you all to join others this Thursday in prayer.  Find your local gathering place if you can.  But, if you can't make this week, this Thursday, the day that begins a national day of prayer that we celebrate 365 days a year.
